Gary, Indiana "was" industry, no doubt. That it no longer "is" is a great part of the problem it faces today.

A sense of the extent of industry in Gary/The Calumet Region may be gained from a visit to the Dave's Den web site.

In the ol'days, when liability was not the fear it is today, U.S. Steel used to provide tours of Gary Works. Just to be among the massive machinery was awe inspiring.
